Cat of the Month: Meet Bex — Your Future Shadow with Whiskers
Ever wish you had a soft, four-legged roommate who won’t judge your snack choices or your reality TV obsession? Say hello to Bex — a mysterious, misunderstood feline treasure patiently waiting for her forever home (and maybe a sunny windowsill to call her own).
Bex came to Centerville Pet Rescue after her previous human had to move and couldn’t bring her along (we know… devastating). Since then, she’s been quietly observing the bustle of rescue life, wondering when someone will see past her initial shyness and realize she’s actually the purrfect best friend in disguise.
Yes, she might play a little hard to get at first — think of her as the cat version of an introverted librarian with a secret karaoke talent. But once Bex decides you’re her person? Boom. Instant snuggle buddy. Gentle purring. Heart-melting slow blinks. She’s all in.
Bex would thrive in a calm, patient home — no tiny humans, please — but she’d probably enjoy having a confident, playful feline friend to show her the ropes and remind her that life is good (and that toys are meant to be destroyed).
If you’re the kind of human who doesn’t mind letting love grow slowly — and you believe every “undercat” deserves their moment to shine — Bex might just be your soulmate with whiskers.

From Forgotten Farm Cat to Family Healer: Isabella’s Story
When Isabella first came to Centerville Pet Rescue, she was one of many cats in Lancaster County born on a farm — a familiar story in our community. Every year, countless “barn cats” and “farm kittens” are born outside without proper care or sterilization. Many are left behind when they’re no longer wanted or when litters grow too large to manage.
Isabella was one of the lucky ones. Found on a local farm with another young cat, she was friendly but unwanted — a fate we see far too often. Thanks to the rescue, she got the chance every cat deserves: safety, medical care, and the promise of a real home.
And what a home she found. Just two weeks after adoption, Isabella’s new family couldn’t imagine life without her. Her adopter shares:
“As I’m writing this, I’m tearing up because words can’t explain how grateful I am for her choosing me. I wasn’t even planning to get a cat — I only wanted a dog. But she’s been nothing short of a miracle.”
Isabella’s personality is larger than life: equal parts wild, loving, and hilariously quirky. She’s playful, motherly, and oddly fond of belly rubs — and yes, licking eyeballs. Her family calls her their ‘cat dog’ because she’s learned commands like sit, shake, lay down, and come. She even joins them for meals, refusing to eat alone.
But the most incredible part of Isabella’s story is her bond with her young human. Her adopter’s son has formed a deep connection with her — one built on trust, empathy, and pure love. When he’s feeling upset or overwhelmed, Isabella runs to him, gently pawing his hands until he pets her. She comforts him without words, helping him find calm in a way no human could.
“She’s taught him social boundaries without hurting his feelings or lowering his confidence,” her adopter explains. “She’s healed parts of me she never broke — all in just two weeks.”
From an unwanted farm cat to a deeply loved family member, Isabella’s journey reminds us why rescue work matters. Every cat we save could be someone’s missing piece — their comfort, their laughter, their daily joy.
We’re so glad Isabella found her forever home… and that she found a family that loves her just as fiercely as she loves them.

A Cat Safe Thanksgiving
Keep your feast cat-safe by avoiding turkey bones, onions, garlic, grapes, and chocolate—these can be toxic to pets. Offer a small bite of plain cooked turkey instead, and give your cat a quiet space away from the holiday bustle.

Purrs, Pours & a Purrfect Adoption at Old Republic Distillery
Centerville Pet Rescue’s latest adoption and fundraising event at the Old Republic Distillery Tasting Room in Ephrata was one for the books! The atmosphere was filled with laughter, good spirits, and plenty of purrs as cat lovers gathered to enjoy the day in support of rescue cats.
Guests mingled on the patio and in the cozy tasting room, sipping on the featured cocktail of the day—the Mor-tini, a decadent salted caramel espresso martini inspired by our very own ambassador cat, Morti. He was, of course, in attendance, charming the crowd and showing everyone why he’s such a beloved face of Centerville Pet Rescue.
Visitors got to meet several adoptable cats and kittens, chat with our volunteers, and learn more about the lifesaving work your support makes possible. And the highlight of the day? A sweet little gray-and-white kitten (Caleb Altair) stole the show—and someone’s heart—by finding his forever home right there at the event!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Old Republic Distillery for their incredible hospitality and generosity in hosting the event, and to our longtime friends at That Fish Place – That Pet Place for providing fun goodie bags and raffle prizes that kept tails wagging and spirits high.
Events like this remind us of the power of community and compassion. Every smile, sip, and snuggle helps us continue rescuing, caring for, and rehoming cats in need. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a day of feline fun and fundraising—we couldn’t do it without you!
Volunteer Spotlight: Chris & Shawn – The Dynamic Duo Behind Bingo Success!
If you attended Centerville Pet Rescue’s first-ever Gift Card Bingo at the York New Salem Fire Company this past May, you’ve already seen the magic of teamwork — and that magic had two names: Chris and Shawn.
These two dedicated volunteers took the lead organizing every detail — from gathering an incredible lineup of gift cards and raffle donations, to crafting beautiful prize baskets, to transforming the fire hall into a festive, welcoming space. Their hard work paid off in a huge way: together with the community, they helped raise nearly $8,000 to support the cats and kittens in CPR’s care — one of the largest fundraisers in our history!
And the best part? They’re already planning the next one — mark your calendars for Sunday, April 19, 2026, when Bingo returns to York New Salem Fire Company.
But Chris and Shawn’s dedication doesn’t stop at event planning. Both are active fosters, adoption room helpers, and all-around rescue rockstars. They share a passion for giving cats the second chances they deserve — and for creating community events that bring people together in the process.
Meet Chris
After losing her beloved German Shepherd, Wolfgang, who adored cats, Chris began fostering in his memory — and she hasn’t stopped since. “He loved every kitten that came into our home until his last day,” she shares.
Chris finds joy in the people as much as the pets: “Everyone has a heart of gold.” One of her favorite memories is of her foster cat, Nilla, who seemed to know just when Chris needed a hug.
Her favorite volunteer role? Helping with events! She loves seeing past fosters at Cat Day and photo sessions and was thrilled to bring back the popular Morti soy candles fundraiser at Old Republic Distillery.
Chris sums up volunteering with CPR in three words: “A Blissful Opportunity!”
Meet Shawn
Shawn’s journey began when she rescued kittens living under a neighbor’s shed — and never looked back. “The rescue suggested I could foster, and I’ve been doing it ever since,” she says.
Her favorite part of volunteering? “How we work together to save lives. We have an awesome team! Someone always has your back.” She especially enjoys clinic days and the adoption room, where she helps people find their new family members.
For Shawn, the most rewarding part of helping cats find homes is simple but profound: “Knowing they don’t ever have to worry anymore.”
Her three words for volunteering at CPR? Rewarding. Eventful. Meaningful.
Thanks to volunteers like Chris and Shawn, Centerville Pet Rescue continues to grow, thrive, and bring hope to countless cats across York and Lancaster Counties.

Their creativity, compassion, and generosity remind us that you’re never too young to make a difference. Because of caring kids like them, more cats will have the comfort and care they need while waiting for their forever homes. Thank you, Krafty Kids, for helping us continue our mission to rescue, heal, and rehome cats in need.
