From “Bugs” to Best Friends: Cycles & Eevee’s Happy Ending

Cycles and Evee on Chair
Cycles and Evee

Early in the new year, two little cats named Bed Bug and Potato Bug began a brand-new chapter — and today, Cycles and Eevee are thriving in a home filled with love, laughter, and companionship.

Their adopter had recently moved to Lancaster alone, starting fresh without nearby family or friends. Having never grown up with pets due to allergies in the household, adopting even one cat felt like a big step — let alone two. But sometimes, the right connection makes the decision easy.

And that’s exactly what happened.

From the moment Cycles and Eevee entered the playroom, their personalities shone through. They were affectionate, curious, and full of confidence — and within that first visit, it was clear they were meant to go home together.

That same confidence carried right into their new life. Within the first hour of arriving home, they were already exploring every corner of the apartment like seasoned pros. That very first night? Curled up together with their new person, as if they had always belonged there.

Today, their bond — with each other and their adopter — is undeniable.

Cycles (also known as “Mr. Scream”) is the bold adventurer of the pair. He’s vocal, playful, and always ready to demand attention with a dramatic “meoooowww” before launching himself into a lap. He proudly carries his favorite toy fish everywhere and even leaves behind little “gifts” — carefully placed toys to surprise his human in the morning. He’s also a dedicated TV buddy and has a unique habit of using faces as pillows.

Cycles and His Fish

Eevee (aka “Mr. Soup”) started out a bit more reserved, but it didn’t take long for his sweet, cuddly nature to take center stage. Now, he’s rarely more than a few inches away, whether you’re working, resting, or relaxing. He’s affectionate, gentle, and just a little mischievous — especially when it comes to trying to sneak bites of his brother’s food.

Cycles and Evee Gaming

Together, they fill their home with personality and joy. Their favorite nap spots? The desk chair, a cozy beanbag, and — perhaps most amusingly — the shower mat.

But beyond the adorable quirks and playful moments, this adoption story carries something deeper.

For their adopter, Cycles and Eevee didn’t just become pets — they became companionship, comfort, and connection during a time that could have felt isolating. The impact has been profound:

“My life has improved so significantly since adopting them.”

Stories like this are at the heart of what we do. It’s not just about finding homes for cats — it’s about creating meaningful connections that change lives on both sides.

Thank you for supporting adoptions that make stories like this possible.

Volunteer Spotlight: Sharon Gromis

Sharon
Sharon

At Centerville Pet Rescue, our mission is powered by compassionate, dedicated people—and Sharon Gromis is one of those individuals who has made a lasting impact over the years.

Sharon first connected with the rescue around 2017 through visits to That Fish Place – That Pet Place. At the time, she was advising the F&M Unleashed student club, and students would occasionally volunteer with us. As those students graduated and moved on, something different happened for Sharon—she didn’t.

Sharon and Daughter
Sharon and Maddie with Daughter Caroline and Milo

What began as a way to support her students quickly grew into a personal passion. While others passed through, Sharon found a place where she truly belonged—and she’s been part of the Centerville Pet Rescue family ever since.

Although Sharon can’t have cats at home, volunteering gives her the opportunity to enjoy meaningful “cat time.” Her love for animals extends beyond the rescue—she shares her life with Maddie, her adorable rescued black and tan dachshund, and her family is deeply committed to adoption. Every dog in her household, and her daughter’s, has been rescued. Supporting the mission of animal rescue isn’t just something Sharon does—it’s something she lives.

Maddie

At the rescue, Sharon is known for her attention to detail and her commitment to creating a clean, comfortable environment for the cats. She takes pride in ensuring each cat begins their journey with us in a safe, well-cared-for space. She’s often the one emphasizing the “clean” in feed & clean—but that dedication plays a critical role in the health, comfort, and dignity of every cat in our care.

Sharon also finds great joy in seeing cats leave for their forever homes—a full-circle moment that reflects the heart of rescue work. Just as meaningful to her are the connections she’s built with fellow volunteers, forming friendships rooted in a shared passion for helping animals.

Her contributions extend even further. Sharon previously served two years as Secretary on the Board, helping support the organization behind the scenes including setting the organizations long-term goals. Today, she continues to volunteer regularly—most often on Sundays for feed & clean shifts—and lends a hand at special events whenever her schedule allows.

When asked to describe Centerville Pet Rescue, Sharon shared: “Freeing and delivering animals from abuse, neglect, and danger.”

Sharon, thank you for your years of dedication, your steady presence, and the care you bring to every cat and every task. Volunteers like you are truly the heart of everything we do.

Adoptable Cat of the Month: Sophia

Sophia
Sophia

A gentle soul with a story that truly matters.

Sophia is an 8-year-old all-black domestic shorthair whose journey to our rescue began with an act of deep love. When her devoted human mom entered hospice care, her greatest wish was simple but profound — to know that Sophia would be safe, cherished, and cared for. We made that promise, and now we are searching for the person who will carry that love forward.

Sophia was clearly a treasured companion, and it shows in everything she does. She brings a calm, comforting presence into any room — the kind that makes a house feel like home. She adores curling up in bed with her foster family, soaking up gentle pets and chin scratches, and simply being near her people.

Sophia Sleeping
Sophia Sleeping

Though she has a few medical needs, Sophia handles them with quiet grace. She has arthritis, which is well managed with a daily over-the-counter joint supplement and low-entry litter boxes to keep her comfortable and independent. And despite a little stiffness, she still enjoys playtime — a sweet reminder that age is just a number.

Sophia also has irritable bowel syndrome and thrives on a prescription diet (Hill’s Biome dry food) along with a daily medication (Budesonide), which she takes like a champ.

We understand that Sophia may not be the easiest adoption — but she may just be the most meaningful one.

Our greatest hope is to find Sophia her forever home soon, so her original mom can have peace knowing her beloved companion is safe and deeply loved.

Could you be the one to give Sophia that gift?
If you have room in your heart and home for a truly special cat, Sophia is ready to meet you — and to love you in the quiet, beautiful way only she can.

Spring Safety for Curious Cats

Cat Care Tip

Spring is finally here, and with it comes sunshine, open windows, and lots of new sights and smells for your cat to explore. While the season brings fresh energy, it also comes with a few hidden dangers to keep in mind.

Keep windows secure.
Cats love fresh air, but open windows without sturdy screens can quickly lead to dangerous falls. Always double-check that screens are tight and secure before letting your cat enjoy a breeze.

Watch out for toxic plants.
Popular spring flowers like lilies, tulips, and daffodils can be highly toxic to cats—even a small nibble or pollen exposure can be harmful. When decorating or gardening, choose pet-safe plants whenever possible.

Be mindful of seasonal chemicals.
Fertilizers, weed killers, and pest treatments are common this time of year. Even small amounts can be dangerous if tracked inside on paws or ingested during grooming.

Refresh your cat’s environment.
Spring is a great time to rotate toys, add a sunny perch, or introduce a new scratching post. Keeping your cat mentally stimulated helps prevent boredom and encourages healthy activity.

A little extra awareness goes a long way—helping your cat enjoy the season safely while soaking up all the joys of spring.

Crash Bandicoot: Proof That Hope Still Wins

Crash
Crash

Crash Bandicoot’s journey is one of resilience, compassion, and the remarkable way animals — and people — can find exactly where they belong.

In November, a Good Samaritan in York County found Crash with a severe facial injury. What first appeared to be a crush injury turned out to be something far more devastating. During surgery, it was discovered that Crash had been shot in the face. Miraculously, the bullet missed every major organ, though his eye could not be saved. What was expected to be a minor procedure became a complex, lifesaving surgery.

Crash pulled through!

As he healed, it became clear that this sweet, gentle cat had an incredible will to live. While receiving care at the veterinary office, one of the veterinary technicians caring for him felt an immediate connection. They didn’t see a tragic past — they saw a cat whose story wasn’t finished yet.

Crash didn’t just find a home. He found a family that truly understood him.

Crash and Squeaks
Crash and Squeaks

At home, Crash joined a household that already included animals with their own stories of survival. One of his feline companions is Squeaks, a former feral cat who was originally part of a TNR program. Over time, Squeaks decided people weren’t so bad after all and made himself at home indoors. Years later, after an accidental escape, he returned injured — and eventually was found to have a BB lodged in his face, resulting in a fractured jaw and severe stomatitis that required the removal of all his teeth. Today, Squeaks is happy, comfortable, and thriving and their shared resilience created an instant bond.

Crash and his Kleenex
Crash and his Kleenex

Crash also lives with a canine sibling named Mu, proving that love — and friendship — comes in many forms. Whether curled up with his feline friends or confidently posing alongside Mu (and even Santa Claus), Crash fits seamlessly into his family’s world.

Crash Mu and His New Brothers
Crash Mu and His New Brothers

According to his family, Crash is outgoing, affectionate, and endlessly lovable. His favorite toy is a lambchop with bunny ears that he proudly carries everywhere. He enjoys boxes, paper bags, sneaking tissues from the box, and spending time with his best cat friend, George. He’s never met a person, cat, or dog he didn’t adore.

Today, Crash Bandicoot is safe, cherished, and living his best life — not defined by what he endured, but celebrated for who he is.

Thank you to everyone who shared his story, supported his recovery, and believed in his future. Stories like Crash’s remind us why the work of Centerville Pet Rescue matters — and how compassion can turn even the most painful beginnings into lives filled with love.

Volunteer Spotlight: Jade Campbell

Jade
Jade

At Centerville Pet Rescue, we are fortunate to have volunteers who pour their hearts into this work — and few embody that dedication more than Jade.

Jade has been part of CPR in some capacity since its inception in 2015. Over the years, she has made an extraordinary impact not only through her hands-on work, but also by raising tens of thousands of dollars for our efforts and for rescue organizations across the country. Her commitment to animal welfare runs deep — it is not just what she does, it is who she is.

Jade
Jade

A Lifelong Calling

Jade’s journey in animal welfare began when she was just eight years old. By age ten, she was already involved in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) efforts. Because childhood allergies prevented her from having indoor cats, she found another way to help — managing a colony of community cats behind her home that were spayed, neutered, and vaccinated through a local low-cost clinic.

Now at 33, she truly cannot imagine doing anything else. Jade serves as CPR’s Lead Veterinary Technician and Foster/Intake Coordinator. Her role allows her to be deeply involved in both the medical and placement sides of rescue — caring for cats at their most vulnerable moments and guiding them toward their forever homes.

Anyone who knows Jade knows her heart belongs to special needs animals, especially cats. Advocating for them and giving them the opportunity to thrive is what fuels her every single day.

Jade

The Evolution of a Rescue Case

When asked her favorite part about volunteering, Jade points to the medical side of rescue. Her greatest fulfillment comes from being involved in the evolution of high medical needs cases — watching cats arrive with severe conditions, helping them through treatment and recovery, and ultimately seeing them adopted. That transformation, from crisis to comfort, makes the long days and hard decisions worthwhile.

She also shares that her favorite “job” at CPR is caring for every cat who comes through our doors and making sure they know they are safe and loved.

Jade

A Foster Close to Her Heart

Jade has countless foster memories, but one stands out: Noodles, her longest foster of two years. Despite his medical needs, Noodles was ultimately adopted by a dear friend. Seeing him find a committed, loving home after such a long journey remains one of Jade’s most meaningful rescue moments.

Why It’s Worth It

For Jade, the most rewarding part of helping cats find homes is knowing that their past no longer defines them.

What matters is what lies ahead — a forever home, a warm lap, a cozy bed, and a life filled with safety and love.

Jade

If she had to describe volunteering at CPR in just three words?

Inevitably worth it.

We are deeply grateful for Jade’s expertise, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Cats with the most complex needs have a fighting chance because of her, and our organization is stronger because she chooses to serve.

Thank you, Jade, for being the steady hands and compassionate heart behind so many second chances.

Adoptable Cat of the Month: Tico Has Small Body but Mighty Heart”

Tico
Tico

Meet Tico, a 7-month-old bundle of personality packed into one small, playful body. This curious little guy wants to be in the middle of whatever is happening — whether that’s chasing a toy, supervising your daily routine, or curling up close for affection. He’s social, sweet, and full of life.

Tico has been diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis, a condition discovered after multiple sedated procedures. Unfortunately, oral medications have not improved his condition. Because of his young age and small size, surgical options such as placing a stent were not recommended due to the high risk of rejection.

Tico Lounging
Tico Lounging

What Does This Mean for Tico?

Tico is looking for a special adopter — someone who can offer patience, love, and realistic expectations. His condition will require ongoing veterinary follow-up. If it worsens over time, it could shorten his life expectancy. Occasionally, mucus buildup may make breathing more difficult, and he could require a sedated airway flush to help him feel comfortable again.

Because of his condition, Tico:

  • Is heat sensitive

  • Often yawns to help stretch his airway

  • Has a loud, vibrating purr that only makes him more endearing

But here’s what truly defines Tico: joy.

He lives life to the fullest. He does wonderfully with other cats, respectful children, and even dogs. If there’s a dog in the home, adopters should simply be aware that Tico is very enthusiastic about dog food — mealtimes will need a little supervision to keep everyone safe.

Tico is not defined by his diagnosis. He’s defined by his playful spirit, his affectionate nature, and the love he gives so freely. He’s looking for a home that will cherish him exactly as he is and walk beside him wherever his journey leads.

If you believe that even a shorter chapter can be filled with incredible love, Tico may be your perfect match. You can meet Tico in person at The Felted Fox in East Petersburg. Stop by, say hello, and see if this special little guy steals your heart.

Cat Care Tip

Safe Easter for Curious Cats

Easter brings flowers, candy, decorations, and family gatherings—but some holiday favorites can pose serious risks to cats.

Skip the lilies. True lilies (including Easter, tiger, and Asiatic lilies) are extremely toxic to cats. Even a small amount of pollen or a lick of water from the vase can cause kidney failure. Choose pet-safe blooms instead.

Watch the grass and décor. Plastic “Easter grass,” ribbons, and small decorations can be irresistible to playful paws but dangerous if swallowed, potentially causing intestinal blockages.

Keep sweets out of reach. Chocolate and sugar-free candies (especially those containing xylitol) are toxic to pets. Store baskets and treats securely.

A little prevention goes a long way. With a few simple precautions, your holiday celebrations can stay joyful—and safe—for every member of the family, including the furry ones.

Thank You for Joining Us at the Love Your Pet Event!

Mamacita

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Love Your Pet Event at That Fish Place – That Pet Place and stopped by our microchip clinic. It was wonderful to see so many pet owners taking a simple but incredibly important step to help protect their animals.

Microchipping provides permanent identification that can help reunite lost pets with their families when the unexpected happens. Every pet we microchipped at the event now has an added layer of safety — and that’s something worth celebrating.

Stories like Mamacita’s remind us why this matters so much. After spending an entire year lost outdoors, she was finally reunited with her family because she had a microchip. Moments like that are exactly why we are so passionate about offering these clinics.

We’re grateful to That Fish Place – That Pet Place for hosting the Love Your Pet Event and for supporting opportunities like this that help keep pets safe.

Thank you again to everyone who participated and helped make the day a success. Your love for your pets truly shows.

WGAL Paws & Pals

We’re always grateful for opportunities to share our mission and introduce more people to the wonderful cats looking for homes. Recently, Centerville Pet Rescue was featured again on WGAL 8’s Paws & Pals segment, where three of our adorable adoptable kittens — Poppyseed, Darla, and Liv — made a special appearance.

These three sweet girls are just three months old and full of personality, and we loved having the chance to introduce them to the community. Segments like this help our cats reach more potential adopters and raise awareness about the lifesaving work that rescue organizations do every day.

A special thank you to WGAL 8 and Regina Ahn, the host of Paws & Pals, for continuing to support local rescues and giving animals like ours a chance to shine on television. We truly appreciate the platform and the kindness shown to our team and the cats we care for.

Meant to Be: Rudolph’s Journey to Becoming Miso

Miso
Miso

When Rudolph came to Centerville Pet Rescue, he was already a heart-stealer — a gentle, cuddly kitten who loved laps, soft head bumps, and quiet moments of connection. What he didn’t know was that someone out there needed him just as much as he needed them.

Miso with Catnip Toy
Miso with Catnip Toy

Renamed Miso, his forever story began during a simple Friday visit to That Fish Place – That Pet Place. Miso and his adopter locked eyes, and in that instant, everything clicked. “Something screamed inside of me that he was the one,” they shared. An application was filled out on the spot — and by the very next day, Miso was home.

Miso in Bed
Miso in Bed

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

After a long and difficult season, and nearly ten years after losing a beloved cat named Peanut, Miso’s adopter was searching for comfort, grounding, and a place to pour love. Miso stepped into that space effortlessly, offering unconditional affection, quiet companionship, and the steady presence only a cat can provide.

Christmas Tree Lane Fundraiser: Thank You, iComm Interactive

This past holiday season, Centerville Pet Rescue was proud to participate in Christmas Tree Lane at Penn Medicine Park, joining local nonprofits in a festive community fundraiser that spread holiday cheer while supporting meaningful causes.

We’re happy to share that our tree received 103 votes, each one helping to support the cats in our care. Every vote represented someone taking a moment to learn about our rescue and show their support, and we are truly grateful to everyone who stopped by and voted.

Christmas Tree Lane Rescue Tree

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our generous tree sponsor, iComm Interactive, whose support made our participation possible. Their sponsorship allowed us to create a tree filled with photos celebrating our adopters, volunteers, and the many lives changed through Centerville Pet Rescue. We are incredibly thankful for their partnership and continued commitment to helping animals in need.

Christmas Tree Lane was a wonderful opportunity to be part of a community-wide holiday tradition, connect with new supporters, and share our mission in a highly visible and joyful setting. We appreciate everyone who helped make this experience special and look forward to participating again in the future.

Thank you for being part of our journey and for helping us make a difference for cats, one season at a time.

Cat Care Tip

Finding a Friendly Cat Outside: What to Do First

Coming across a friendly cat outdoors can be both heartwarming and concerning. When a cat approaches for pets, rubs against your legs, or seems eager for attention, it’s natural to assume they’ve been abandoned and want to help right away.

However, many friendly outdoor cats are actually beloved pets who slipped out, became disoriented, or wandered farther than intended. Before assuming a cat has been dumped or needs rescue placement, there are important steps you can take that often lead to a happy reunion.

Start With a Microchip Check

If the cat is approachable, the first and most important step is to have them scanned for a microchip. Most veterinary clinics and animal shelters can do this quickly and at no cost.
A registered microchip can immediately reconnect a lost cat with a worried family.

Ask Around the Neighborhood

Lost cats are often found very close to home.
Try knocking on nearby doors and asking neighbors if they recognize the cat. Look for a breakaway collar or identification tag, even if it’s worn or partially missing. A few conversations can solve the mystery faster than expected.

Spread the Word Locally

If no owner is immediately identified, sharing information greatly improves the chances of reunification.
Consider posting clear photos and details in local lost-and-found pet groups, neighborhood forums, and community apps such as Nextdoor. You can also create a found-pet listing through Petfinder’s lost pet registry.

Hanging flyers in the neighborhood, local businesses, and veterinary offices is also very effective. Be sure to include clear photos, nearby cross streets, and the date the cat was found. Notifying local shelters of a found cat — even if you are temporarily caring for them — helps owners searching multiple avenues.

Rescues Should Be a Last Step

If you’ve exhausted reunification efforts — no microchip, no response to posts or flyers — then reaching out to a rescue or shelter may be appropriate. It’s important to understand that many rescues are currently operating at or beyond capacity and may be limited in their ability to take in additional cats.

By attempting reunification first, you help reduce strain on rescue organizations while giving lost pets the best chance of returning home.

A little time, patience, and community teamwork can make all the difference. Your kindness and willingness to help could be exactly what reunites a family with a cat they’ve been missing.

Microchip Clinic - LYP
Microchip Clinic - LYP

Centerville Pet Rescue is excited to participate in the annual Love Your Pet Event at That Fish Place – That Pet Place.

This fun, community-focused event is a great opportunity to celebrate the pets you love while taking care of a few important essentials that help keep them safe and healthy.

Microchipping Clinic

Microchipping is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your pet. Unlike collars or tags that can break or fall off, a microchip provides permanent identification that can be scanned by veterinarians, animal shelters, and animal control agencies nationwide.

Each microchip contains a unique identification number linked to your contact information in a secure database. If your pet is ever lost, this dramatically increases the chances of being reunited quickly and safely.

  • Cost: $25 per pet

  • Includes lifetime registration

  • Dogs must be leashed

  • Cats and other small animals must be in carriers

  • No reptiles will be microchipped

Momma Rosie & New Mom Laura
Momma Rosie & New Mom Laura

After patiently waiting for her turn, Momma Rosie has officially found her forever home. This devoted mama, who lovingly raised her kittens after being found abandoned, is now soaking up the quiet, comfort, and affection she so deserves. We are thrilled to see Rosie start this next chapter with a family who adores her, and we are grateful to everyone who helped share her story and advocate for FeLV-positive cats. Congratulations to Momma Rosie and her new mom Laura— this one truly warms our hearts.

Dr. Elsey’s Ongoing Litter Donations Support Our Rescue

Dr. Elsey's
Dr. Elsey's

Centerville Pet Rescue is incredibly grateful to Dr. Elsey’s for their recent donation of a full skid of cat litter—and for their continued generosity over many years.

This is not a one-time gift. Dr. Elsey’s has been a consistent, reliable supporter, donating skids of litter multiple times each year to help care for the hundreds of cats who come through our rescue. That kind of long-term commitment makes a real, tangible difference in our daily operations.

Litter is one of our most essential—and most frequently used—supplies. Donations like this allow us to direct more of our funds toward medical care, enrichment, and lifesaving support, while ensuring our cats remain comfortable and well cared for during their time with us.

We are deeply thankful for Dr. Elsey’s partnership, their belief in our mission, and their ongoing dedication to improving the lives of cats in need. Supporters like this are a vital part of everything we do, and we are proud to recognize them as a valued sponsor of Centerville Pet Rescue.

Winky Is Ready: A Gentle Survivor Looking for a Loving Home

Two months ago, Centerville Pet Rescue said “yes” to a cat who desperately needed help. Today, that same cat is healthy, stable, and ready for the next — and most important — step in her journey.

Meet Winky.

Winky was found at a manufacturing plant in Mount Joy, severely underweight and struggling to survive. When she arrived in our care, she weighed just 4.5 pounds, less than half of what a healthy adult cat her size should weigh. Much of her past remains a mystery. She arrived already ear-tipped — a small, painless procedure that removes the tip of one ear to indicate a cat has been spayed as part of a community or feral cat program — and missing one eye, which had clearly been surgically removed long before she found her way to us.

Winky in a Wall
Winky in a Wall

What was immediately clear, however, was her personality.

Despite everything she had been through, Winky was friendly, affectionate, and trusting from the start. Whether she was once someone’s pet or a community cat — a cat who lives outdoors and is cared for by people in the area rather than belonging to one single home, and who is not typically socialized to people — she never lost her love for people.

Over the past two months, Winky has made wonderful progress. With consistent veterinary care, proper nutrition, and a safe place to rest, she has gained strength and confidence. She is now stable, comfortable, and ready to find a home of her own.

Winky
Winky

Winky is a gentle soul who would thrive in a calm, loving environment where she can continue to blossom. Her missing eye doesn’t slow her down — it simply adds to her unique charm and story of resilience.

If you’re looking for a special companion with a big heart and an inspiring journey, Winky may be the perfect match.

To learn more about Winky or to apply to adopt, please submit an adoption application. Our team would be happy to help arrange a meet-and-greet.

Winky has come so far. Now all she needs is a family to call her own.

Looking Back with Gratitude, Looking Forward with Hope

New Year Cat 2026
New Year Cat 2026

As we step into a new year, January gives us a moment to pause—to reflect on what our community has made possible, and to look ahead to what’s next for the cats who still need us.

A Year of Impact

Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, fosters, adopters, donors, and partners, more than 500 cats were rescued this past year. Each one represents a life changed—cats pulled from unsafe situations, provided with shelter, nourishment, medical care, and the chance to heal. Beyond those placed into our adoption program, hundreds more received food, supplies, and critical medical support, helping families and community caregivers keep cats healthy and safe.

We celebrated countless adoption stories—shy cats finding patient families, playful kittens growing into confident companions, and special-needs cats proving that love and care can overcome even the biggest challenges. These happy endings are at the heart of everything we do.

Medical Space
Medical Space

A Major Milestone: Our Medical Space

One of our most exciting achievements was the completion and full funding of our new medical space. This project represents years of planning, fundraising, and belief in what our rescue could become. In the coming months, we’ll begin using this space for routine rescue medical care—allowing us to respond faster, reduce costs, and provide even better outcomes for the cats who depend on us.

This space is more than a room—it’s a commitment to the future of our rescue and to every cat who comes through our doors.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward into the new year, our focus remains clear:

  • Continue rescuing cats in need throughout our community

  • Expand medical care and preventative services

  • Support fosters and adopters with education and resources

  • Strengthen partnerships that help us do more, together

None of this happens without you. Every adoption, donation, volunteer hour, and shared post helps move our mission forward.

Thank you for being part of the Centerville Pet Rescue family. We can’t wait to show you what the next chapter brings—for the cats already in our care, and for those we haven’t met yet.

Hope for the New Year: Three Cats Still Waiting for Their Match

As a new year begins, we’re reminded that every fresh start looks different. For some cats, it happens quickly. For others, it takes time — not because they’re any less deserving, but because the right match hasn’t come along yet.

At Centerville Pet Rescue, a few special cats have been in our care for more than six months. They are well known to our volunteers, deeply cared for, and still waiting for the homes that fit them best. As we look ahead to the year to come, we’re hopeful that this will finally be their year.

Rosie at Felted Fox
Rosie at Felted Fox

Momma Rosie
Momma Rosie has already been featured in our newsletter, and for good reason. After dedicating herself to raising her kittens, she’s now ready for a life that’s a little quieter and fully her own. Rosie is gentle, steady, and content to share calm companionship with the people she trusts. She’s the kind of cat who doesn’t demand attention — she offers it in a soft, reassuring way. Momma Rosie is FeLV-positive and can be met at our satellite adoption location, The Felted Fox, where she continues to charm everyone she meets. FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) affects only cats and is not contagious to people or other animals; with proper care and an indoor home—ideally as the only cat or with other FeLV-positive cats—many FeLV-positive cats live happy, comfortable lives.

Cindy Lou
Cindy Lou

Cindy Lou

Cindy Lou is a petite Persian who came to Centerville Pet Rescue from North Carolina. She enjoys playing with her catnip fish toy and using her scratching posts, and she appreciates a calm, orderly environment. Cindy Lou is looking for a home where she can be the only pet, as she’s happiest when she doesn’t have to share her space with other animals. She does enjoy calm, respectful children and would make a wonderful companion for a retired individual or a family that values quiet time together.

Because the adoption center can be overwhelming for her, Cindy Lou is currently living in a foster home. Interested adopters can submit an application, and our team will be happy to arrange a meet-and-greet with her foster parent.

Bexlin in her bed
Bexlin in her bed

Bexlin
Bexlin is another familiar face to our readers. With her thoughtful and reserved nature, she tends to shine brightest with people who take the time to truly know her. She isn’t flashy or demanding — she simply needs understanding and patience. In the right home, Bexlin has all the makings of a loyal, gentle companion.

Cats who wait longer are often overlooked—but they are no less deserving of loving homes. Sometimes, all it takes is a second look, a shared post, or a visit to meet them in person.

As we step into the new year, we’re hopeful that Momma Rosie, Cindy Lou, and Bexlin will finally find the families they’ve been waiting for. If you’re considering adoption, fostering, or simply helping spread the word, you could be the reason their fresh start begins.

Because every cat’s story deserves a happy next chapter.

Thank You for Making Pet Photos with Santa Magical!

What an incredible holiday tradition this turned out to be! Our Pet Photos with Santa event spanned four festive days, and we are so grateful to everyone who joined us. With nearly 1,500 people and pets participating across all four days, the event was filled with joyful moments, adorable outfits, wagging tails, happy purrs, and nonstop smiles.

A huge thank you to That Fish Place – That Pet Place for generously hosting this event and for their amazing staff who helped keep everything running smoothly. From welcoming families to assisting behind the scenes, their support played a huge role in making this four-day event such a success. We are incredibly grateful for their continued partnership and commitment to helping pets in need.

From longtime supporters to first-time visitors, your enthusiasm and love for animals made each day truly special. Not only did we create unforgettable holiday memories together, but your participation directly supported our mission to rescue, care for, and rehome cats in need. Every photo taken helped make a difference.

Santa Neely and Morti
Santa Neely and Morti

A Special Thank You to Santa & Mrs. Claus

A heartfelt thank you to Santa Neely and his wonderful wife, Mrs. (Neely) Claus, for generously sharing their time, warmth, and holiday spirit with our community over all four days. Santa Neely—affectionately known by all—brought patience, kindness, and plenty of ho-ho-ho’s, making every pet and family feel welcome.

We especially loved seeing Santa pose with our very own mascot, Morti—a moment that perfectly captured the joy, fun, and heart of this beloved event.

Whether you came once or returned on multiple days, brought a pet, volunteered, donated, or simply stopped by to enjoy the festivities—thank you. Your support means the world to us and to the cats who benefit from events like this all year long.

Because of you, this four-day celebration was truly magical. We are so grateful for this community and can’t wait to celebrate with you again next season.

Cat Care Tip

Winter Warmth

If you’re caring for stray or community cats, providing a simple winter shelter can be lifesaving. A basic shelter can be made from a sturdy plastic tote or insulated box, filled with straw (not blankets) to keep moisture away and retain warmth. Place the shelter off the ground, facing away from wind, and near where the cats already feel safe. Even a small, dry space can make a big difference during freezing nights.

A little preparation can mean warmth, safety, and survival.

Thank You to Our 2025 Sponsors & Community Partners

As we close out an incredible year at Centerville Pet Rescue, we want to take a moment to recognize the organizations that made so much of our work in 2025 possible. Their generosity, partnership, and belief in our mission directly supported the cats and kittens who needed us most.

Our 2025 Primary Sponsors

We are deeply grateful to our primary sponsors whose continued support helped power our rescue efforts throughout the year:

These sponsors provided vital financial support, products, services, and advocacy that allowed us to care for hundreds of cats—supporting medical treatment, daily care, enrichment, and successful adoptions. Their commitment makes a real, measurable difference in the lives of the cats we serve.

Thank You, Wayne’s Towing & Recovery, for Sponsoring Our New Volunteer T-Shirts

Wayne’s Towing & Recovery has supported Centerville Pet Rescue from the very beginning, and we’re deeply grateful for their continued generosity—most recently through sponsoring our new volunteer t-shirts.

Our volunteers are at the core of everything we do, and we’re excited to introduce these new shirts as another way to represent the rescue while out in the community. Featuring both organizations’ logos, some adorable feline friends, and the message “Saving Pets Together,” the shirts celebrate the partnership that helps make our lifesaving work possible.

Sunny Needs a Home— High-Energy Tripod with a Heart of Gold

Sunny in Bed
Sunny in Bed

Sunny is a petite, two-year-old tripod with a bright spirit and an endless supply of energy. Her journey to us began after a serious accident: during one of her high-speed play sessions, she caught her leg and suffered a severe fracture. The injury required amputation to give her the pain-free, active future she deserved. Her former owner—an elderly individual who loved her but couldn’t meet the demands of such an energetic young cat—was unable to move forward with the procedure. That’s when Sunny came to us, and we made sure she received the care she needed.

Sunny Talking
Sunny Talking

Today, Sunny is fully healed and thriving on three legs. She is litter trained, curious, and incredibly clever. A natural athlete even as a tripod, she needs plenty of enrichment and engagement to channel her high energy. Food puzzles, snuffle mats, wand toys, climbing opportunities, and regular interactive play will make her very happy.

Sunny also has clear preferences when it comes to her living environment. She would do best as the only cat in the home, and while she may consider living with a calm, respectful dog, she values her personal space. Children over 12 who understand boundaries are a good match for her personality.

Sunny on a Condo
Sunny on a Condo

With her independence, intelligence, and playful nature, Sunny is a truly special cat looking for a family who appreciates her unique spark. If you’re ready for a spirited, one-of-a-kind companion, Sunny just might be the perfect fit.

The Legend of Nacho Fry: Extra Toes, Extra Chaos, Extra Love

Nacho in a Box

Some rescue stories begin quietly and end with a whole lot of personality. That’s certainly true for Dennis, the abandoned kitten found with his siblings in a field at Root’s Country Market in Manheim. With his extra toes on all four paws—a trait known as polydactyly, meaning a cat is born with more than the usual number of toes—Dennis was already one of a kind when he arrived in our care.

Nacho's Feet
Nacho's Feet

Today, he’s even more unforgettable as Nacho Fry, the name lovingly chosen by his adopters, Taylor and Wyatt.

Wyatt Taylor and Nacho Fry
Wyatt Taylor and Nacho Fry

Nacho has blossomed into everything we knew he could be: high-energy, endlessly curious, and overflowing with charm. He greets his parents at the door every day and has recently developed a new ritual—sticking his entire face under the running sink faucet while teeth are being brushed, drenching himself in the process. Nacho, of course, sees no issue with this.

Nacho on the Couch
Nacho on the Couch

True to his polydactyl roots, he uses those extra toes for important work, like helping his mom scroll TikTok. If he approves of a video, he places his paw squarely on the screen—social media manager in the making. And when he’s not supervising household chores or jumping into the litter box mid-clean, Nacho still loves to be held like a baby and cuddle on the couch after a long workday.

According to Taylor and Wyatt:

“Nacho has a huge personality and we truly love him so much—especially his mom! We could go on and on about him.”

Nacho on the Toilet

From a field in Manheim to a home filled with laughter, love, and a whole lot of TikTok scrolling, Nacho Fry has found exactly where he belongs.

Pumpkin Creativity Helps Cats in Need

Pumpkin Contest
Pumpkin Contest Winners

Employees at That Fish Place – That Pet Place put their creativity (and competitive spirits) on full display during a recent pumpkin-decorating contest benefiting Centerville Pet Rescue. Fourteen beautifully crafted pumpkins were entered, each one decorated by a staff member who wanted to support the rescue in a fun, festive way.

Donors had the chance to “vote” with their dollars, and together they raised $256.65 for the cats and kittens in our care. Every contribution directly helps provide food, medical support, and safe housing for the cats who need us most.

While all 14 pumpkins were truly impressive, the top three vote-getters took home the honors—and you can see the winning creations in the photo accompanying this article.

Thank you to the talented team at That Fish Place – That Pet Place for turning Halloween fun into real support for rescue work. And thank you to everyone who donated—you helped make this contest a treat for the whole rescue community.

We are also pleased to share that we received the full $15,000 matching gift, unlocking every available match dollar. Because of your early and enthusiastic support, the match was met in full—turning $15,000 into $30,000 of impact.

A Night of Art and Compassion for Cats

Margot and her son Jason
Margot and her son Jason

A huge thank-you to Margot Furlong and Painting with a Twist – Lancaster for organizing and hosting our recent “Paint. Sip. Save Cats!” fundraiser! Margot is a dedicated volunteer and spent a lot of her time to make this event such a great success. Thanks to her generosity and the team at Painting with a Twist— not to mention the creativity of everyone who joined us — we raised over $600 to support the cats and kittens of Centerville Pet Rescue.

Guests enjoyed an evening of painting, music, and laughter under the guidance of artist Rachel, who helped everyone create beautiful works of art while giving back to a great cause.

We’re so grateful to Painting with a Twist for partnering with us and to all the participants who picked up a brush to make a difference. Every dollar raised helps provide medical care, food, and safe shelter for cats in need.

Cat of the Month: Meet Bex — Your Future Shadow with Whiskers

Ever wish you had a soft, four-legged roommate who won’t judge your snack choices or your reality TV obsession? Say hello to Bex — a mysterious, misunderstood feline treasure patiently waiting for her forever home (and maybe a sunny windowsill to call her own).

Bexlin in her bed
Bexlin (Bex)

Bex came to Centerville Pet Rescue after her previous human had to move and couldn’t bring her along (we know… devastating). Since then, she’s been quietly observing the bustle of rescue life, wondering when someone will see past her initial shyness and realize she’s actually the purrfect best friend in disguise.

Yes, she might play a little hard to get at first — think of her as the cat version of an introverted librarian with a secret karaoke talent. But once Bex decides you’re her person? Boom. Instant snuggle buddy. Gentle purring. Heart-melting slow blinks. She’s all in.

Bexlin Closeup
Bexlin (Bex)

Bex would thrive in a calm, patient home — no tiny humans, please — but she’d probably enjoy having a confident, playful feline friend to show her the ropes and remind her that life is good (and that toys are meant to be destroyed).

If you’re the kind of human who doesn’t mind letting love grow slowly — and you believe every “undercat” deserves their moment to shine — Bex might just be your soulmate with whiskers.

From Forgotten Farm Cat to Family Healer: Isabella’s Story

Isabella
Isabella

When Isabella first came to Centerville Pet Rescue, she was one of many cats in Lancaster County born on a farm — a familiar story in our community. Every year, countless “barn cats” and “farm kittens” are born outside without proper care or sterilization. Many are left behind when they’re no longer wanted or when litters grow too large to manage.

Isabella was one of the lucky ones. Found on a local farm with another young cat, she was friendly but unwanted — a fate we see far too often. Thanks to the rescue, she got the chance every cat deserves: safety, medical care, and the promise of a real home.

And what a home she found. Just two weeks after adoption, Isabella’s new family couldn’t imagine life without her. Her adopter shares:

“As I’m writing this, I’m tearing up because words can’t explain how grateful I am for her choosing me. I wasn’t even planning to get a cat — I only wanted a dog. But she’s been nothing short of a miracle.”

Isabella’s personality is larger than life: equal parts wild, loving, and hilariously quirky. She’s playful, motherly, and oddly fond of belly rubs — and yes, licking eyeballs. Her family calls her their ‘cat dog’ because she’s learned commands like sitshakelay down, and come. She even joins them for meals, refusing to eat alone.

Isabella Dinner Time
Isabella Dinner Time

But the most incredible part of Isabella’s story is her bond with her young human. Her adopter’s son has formed a deep connection with her — one built on trust, empathy, and pure love. When he’s feeling upset or overwhelmed, Isabella runs to him, gently pawing his hands until he pets her. She comforts him without words, helping him find calm in a way no human could.

“She’s taught him social boundaries without hurting his feelings or lowering his confidence,” her adopter explains. “She’s healed parts of me she never broke — all in just two weeks.”

Isabella on the Couch
Isabella on the Couch

From an unwanted farm cat to a deeply loved family member, Isabella’s journey reminds us why rescue work matters. Every cat we save could be someone’s missing piece — their comfort, their laughter, their daily joy.

We’re so glad Isabella found her forever home… and that she found a family that loves her just as fiercely as she loves them.

A Cat Safe Thanksgiving

Keep your feast cat-safe by avoiding turkey bones, onions, garlic, grapes, and chocolate—these can be toxic to pets. Offer a small bite of plain cooked turkey instead, and give your cat a quiet space away from the holiday bustle.

Purrs, Pours & a Purrfect Adoption at Old Republic Distillery

ORD Event
ORD Event

Centerville Pet Rescue’s latest adoption and fundraising event at the Old Republic Distillery Tasting Room in Ephrata was one for the books! The atmosphere was filled with laughter, good spirits, and plenty of purrs as cat lovers gathered to enjoy the day in support of rescue cats.

Guests mingled on the patio and in the cozy tasting room, sipping on the featured cocktail of the day—the Mor-tini, a decadent salted caramel espresso martini inspired by our very own ambassador cat, Morti. He was, of course, in attendance, charming the crowd and showing everyone why he’s such a beloved face of Centerville Pet Rescue.

Visitors got to meet several adoptable cats and kittens, chat with our volunteers, and learn more about the lifesaving work your support makes possible. And the highlight of the day? A sweet little gray-and-white kitten (Caleb Altair) stole the show—and someone’s heart—by finding his forever home right there at the event!

Volunteer Spotlight: Chris & Shawn – The Dynamic Duo Behind Bingo Success!

April Bingo Event
April Bingo Event

If you attended Centerville Pet Rescue’s first-ever Gift Card Bingo at the York New Salem Fire Company this past May, you’ve already seen the magic of teamwork — and that magic had two names: Chris and Shawn.

These two dedicated volunteers took the lead organizing every detail — from gathering an incredible lineup of gift cards and raffle donations, to crafting beautiful prize baskets, to transforming the fire hall into a festive, welcoming space. Their hard work paid off in a huge way: together with the community, they helped raise nearly $8,000 to support the cats and kittens in CPR’s care — one of the largest fundraisers in our history!

And the best part? They’re already planning the next one — mark your calendars for Sunday, April 19, 2026, when Bingo returns to York New Salem Fire Company.

But Chris and Shawn’s dedication doesn’t stop at event planning. Both are active fosters, adoption room helpers, and all-around rescue rockstars. They share a passion for giving cats the second chances they deserve — and for creating community events that bring people together in the process.

Shawn & Chris
Shawn & Chris

Meet Chris

After losing her beloved German Shepherd, Wolfgang, who adored cats, Chris began fostering in his memory — and she hasn’t stopped since. “He loved every kitten that came into our home until his last day,” she shares.

Chris finds joy in the people as much as the pets: “Everyone has a heart of gold.” One of her favorite memories is of her foster cat, Nilla, who seemed to know just when Chris needed a hug.

Her favorite volunteer role? Helping with events! She loves seeing past fosters at Cat Day and photo sessions and was thrilled to bring back the popular Morti soy candles fundraiser at Old Republic Distillery.

Chris sums up volunteering with CPR in three words: “A Blissful Opportunity!”

Meet Shawn

Shawn’s journey began when she rescued kittens living under a neighbor’s shed — and never looked back. “The rescue suggested I could foster, and I’ve been doing it ever since,” she says.

Her favorite part of volunteering? “How we work together to save lives. We have an awesome team! Someone always has your back.” She especially enjoys clinic days and the adoption room, where she helps people find their new family members.

For Shawn, the most rewarding part of helping cats find homes is simple but profound: “Knowing they don’t ever have to worry anymore.”

Her three words for volunteering at CPR? Rewarding. Eventful. Meaningful.

Thanks to volunteers like Chris and Shawn, Centerville Pet Rescue continues to grow, thrive, and bring hope to countless cats across York and Lancaster Counties.

Community Spotlight: The Krafty Kids Make a Big Impact

Krafty Kids

Centerville Pet Rescue would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the amazing group of girls known as the Krafty Kids—Cassidy, Paisley, Ashlyn, and Naomi. These thoughtful young volunteers recently organized a fundraiser and donated more than $100 worth of much-needed supplies to help our cats and kittens.

Their creativity, compassion, and generosity remind us that you’re never too young to make a difference. Because of caring kids like them, more cats will have the comfort and care they need while waiting for their forever homes. Thank you, Krafty Kids, for helping us continue our mission to rescue, heal, and rehome cats in need.

CPR: One of the Best Places to Get a Pet in Lancaster County!

2025 LNP Readers Choice Awards

Centerville Pet Rescue Voted One of the Best Places to Get a Pet in Lancaster County!

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our supporters — Centerville Pet Rescue has been voted one of the Best Places to Get a Pet in Lancaster County in the 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards by LNP | LancasterOnline!

Each year, the Readers’ Choice Awards shine a spotlight on the community’s favorite businesses, organizations, and services across the county. Voting took place from May 5 through May 30, 2025, and the results reflect the voices of thousands of local residents.

This recognition means so much to our team and volunteers. It is a true celebration of the dedication we put into rescuing, caring for, and rehoming cats in need. But most of all, it reflects the trust and love the Lancaster community has placed in us as a safe, compassionate place to adopt a furry family member.

At Centerville Pet Rescue, every adoption is more than just finding a home — it’s about creating happy futures for both cats and people. From tiny kittens to special-needs cats with incredible spirit, we strive to make every match meaningful and lasting.

Thank you, Lancaster County! Your votes show us how much our mission matters, and we couldn’t do it without your continued support.

If you’re considering adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating, now is the perfect time to get involved and be part of this award-winning rescue effort. Together, we can continue to change lives — one cat at a time.

Volunteer Spotlight: Donna & Jana — A Mother-Daughter Rescue Dream Team

Donna and Jana Volunteers

When you think of dedication, heart, and teamwork, it’s hard not to think of Donna and her daughter Jana. Since 2018, this mother–daughter duo has been two of Centerville Pet Rescue’s most reliable and passionate volunteers, giving their time and energy wherever it’s needed most — from fostering fragile kittens to helping at spay/neuter clinics, adoption days, and fundraising events.

How It All Began

Their journey with CPR started back in 2017, when they discovered three stray kittens in their neighborhood. With few resources available, Jana managed to find homes for two. The last little one was brought to Centerville Pet Rescue’s setup at That Fish Place – That Pet Place, where adoptions were still being held in the middle of the store. After a few visits, the kitten found a loving family — and Donna and Jana found their calling. Soon after, they began fostering kittens for CPR, quickly realizing just how great the need was.

Teamwork in Action

One of their favorite parts about volunteering together is being able to “tag team” when fostering neonatal or very young kittens. Each has different strengths, and working side by side makes the hard work of caring for fragile babies less stressful and more rewarding.

  • Donna’s favorite job: helping in the adoption room, guiding families toward their perfect cat or kitten.

  • Jana’s favorite job: assisting at spay/neuter clinics and supporting medical care for cats in need.

Their shared memories tell the story of their dedication: for Jana, fostering a blind kitten named Sweetness was an unforgettable experience. For Donna, it was the bottle baby who refused to give up his bottle — happily holding it himself even when he no longer needed it!

Sweetness the Blind Kitten
Sweetness the Blind Kitten

The Reward

For Donna, the most rewarding part of volunteering is when adopters return with photos or stories of how much they love their new companion — especially if it’s a kitten she once fostered. As she puts it, volunteering is “Challenging, Exhausting, Rewarding.”

Rudy and His Bottle
Rudy and His Bottle

Beyond the Daily Work

Their impact goes far beyond individual cats. Donna has served as an official volunteer since 2018, became a CPR Board Member in 2020, and is known as a “super foster” always ready to pitch in. Jana, also a volunteer since 2018, is part of our surgery team, a super foster in her own right, and a vital part of fundraising efforts.

Together, Donna and Jana are an unstoppable force for good.

From Stray to Sopita: Estella’s Happy Ending

Estella Kitten Photo
Soup (Sopita)

When Estella first wandered up to a home in York City, she was just a 10-week-old kitten trying to survive on her own. Her little body told the story—dirty, matted, missing patches of fur, and covered in fleas. Life on the streets hadn’t been kind, but Estella’s luck changed the moment she arrived at Centerville Pet Rescue. With some much-needed care, she finally had the chance to be safe, warm, and loved.

Sopita on Blanket
Soup (Sopita)

That chance turned into forever when the Calero family welcomed her home. They renamed her Soup—or affectionately “Sopita”—and she has blossomed into the energetic, playful, and fluffy girl she was always meant to be.

Sopita Window
Soup (Sopita) Watching

Today, Soup is thriving. She loves “pets” (the Caleros say it’s her favorite thing!), chasing string toys, and zooming around the house with her new feline sibling. She’s a little cautious with fast movements and isn’t crazy about being picked up, but her family gives her the time and space she needs to feel secure.

Her personality shines brightest in her quirks—Soup watches TV, adores chicken-flavored treats, and occasionally tries to nibble on the computer screen, much to her family’s amusement (and mild panic). With her beautiful fluffy coat, big tail, and sweet spirit, she’s now showered in love every single day.

Offsite Adoption Location

We’d like to give a big thank you to our friends at The Felted Fox for partnering with us as an offsite adoption location! Their creative, welcoming shop is more than just a place to find beautiful handmade treasures—it’s also a space where rescue cats get the chance to meet their future families.

By opening their doors to Centerville Pet Rescue, The Felted Fox helps us reach more people in the community and bring more cats one step closer to a forever home. We are so grateful for their support and for making a difference in the lives of pets and people alike.

Cat Care Tip

With cooler nights and shorter days arriving, your cat may be seeking out extra warmth and comfort. Help them adjust to the season by creating a few cozy resting spots around your home — think soft blankets, a heated bed, or a perch near a sunny window.  Not only will this keep them snug, but it also gives them a safe space to watch the leaves fall and birds gather for migration. A little seasonal comfort goes a long way in keeping your kitty happy and healthy!

Cat of the Month: Rosie

Rosie Relaxing

Meet Momma Rosie

When Momma Rosie was found outside a Good Samaritan’s home in York City, she wasn’t alone—she had five tiny kittens clinging to her side. Abandoned, yet determined, this brave mama poured every ounce of love into keeping her babies safe. With her gentle purrs, quiet strength, and endless devotion, she raised them into healthy little bundles of joy. Now, it’s Momma Rosie’s turn to be cared for.

Momma Rosie is the sweetest girl who simply wants attention from everyone she meets. A gorgeous polydactyl tabby (that means she has extra toes!), she’ll happily make you some biscuits if you’re lucky. She gives daily kisses, is wonderfully snuggly, and would love nothing more than a cozy human to curl up with.

Momma Rosie Chin Rub
Rosie Loves Attention

When she isn’t asking for pets, you’ll find Rosie snoozing in her cat tree on a soft blanket, birdwatching from a sunny window, or showing off her playful side with wand toys. She’s a queen who knows how to balance fun, affection, and relaxation—ready to bring love and joy into her forever home.

Rosie Closeup
Rosie

A Note About FeLV
Momma Rosie has tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV), but she is considered regressive FeLV. This means her body has largely fought off the active infection, and while the virus is still present, it is dormant. Regressive FeLV cats often live long, healthy lives, and they are far less likely to develop FeLV-related illness compared to cats with progressive infection.

For Rosie, this means she should still either live as your cherished “one-and-only” or with other FeLV+ cats—but it also means her outlook is bright, and she has every chance to enjoy years of love and comfort with her future family.

Momma Rosie is currently fostered in York, PA. Ready to meet this sweetheart or learn more? Complete an Adoption Application!

Sponsor Highlight

Heartfelt Thanks to Our Longtime Sponsor: That Fish Place – That Pet Place!

Centerville Pet Rescue is proud to recognize and thank That Fish Place – That Pet Place for their unwavering support since our founding in 2015. From the very beginning, they have been an essential part of our journey — helping us grow, save lives, and serve our community.

Their incredible generosity includes providing a dedicated rescue and medical space inside their retail store, where countless cats have received care and found loving homes. They consistently promote our adoptable animals and events, and offer donations and discounts on vital supplies. Even more, they open the door to an extensive network of pet supply vendors and industry professionals, expanding the impact of our work far beyond what we could do alone.

We’re especially grateful for the fundraisers they host, including the ever-popular pet photo events with Santa and the Easter Bunny, as well as many other creative promotions. Together, these efforts result in tens of thousands of dollars in support every year!

Equally inspiring is the support we receive from their incredible employees, who go out of their way to help our team and the animals in our care. Their kindness and dedication truly make a difference.

Thank you, That Fish Place – That Pet Place, for being a cornerstone of Centerville Pet Rescue. Your partnership means the world to us — and to the cats you help save every day.

Cat Care Tip

As the weather cools, many cats begin to shed their summer coats. Help reduce hairballs and keep your cat comfy by brushing regularly—especially for long-haired breeds. A few minutes a day can make a big difference (and keep your furniture fur-free!). Bonus: it’s great bonding time too!

Opening Doors, Changing Lives: How You Can Help Cats Find Their Forever Homes

If you’ve ever wished you could do something meaningful to help homeless animals — something that brings you joy and purpose — this is your moment.

At Centerville Pet Rescue, we believe that every cat deserves a second chance. Our adoption center inside That Fish Place – That Pet Place is one of the most important ways we connect our rescued cats with loving adopters. It’s where the magic happens — the purrs, the playfulness, the soft nudge of a head saying “pick me.” But to keep this vital part of our rescue thriving — and to expand the hours we’re open to the public — we need volunteers like you.

Volunteering in our adoption room isn’t just about opening a door. It’s about opening hearts.

Every shift, you could be the person who:

  • Helps a shy cat come out of their shell and get noticed.

  • Chats with a family searching for their very first pet.

  • Matches someone with a lonely senior lap cat who’s been waiting far too long.

You’ll become an essential part of the adoption journey — answering questions, sharing stories, offering advice, and helping people find the cat that fits their life. It’s incredibly rewarding work, and the impact is immediate: a successful adoption means one more life saved and one more space freed up for the next rescue.

We provide training with our friendly adoption team on a Friday or Saturday, and from there, you’ll be ready to independently open the center, greet visitors, and guide them through the process. Whether you prefer quiet weekday mornings or busy weekend afternoons, your time makes a difference.

Volunteers don’t just support the rescue — they help shape the future of our cats.

If you’re dependable, friendly, and love both felines and people, we’d love to welcome you to the team. The cats are waiting — and so are the families who need them.

Ready to start making matches that matter? Use the button below and complete a volunteer application today!
Come be part of something beautiful. Help us open more doors. Help us write more happy endings.

Cat of the Month - Hannah

Hannah
Hannah

Hannah’s Story: A Special Boy with a Heart of Gold

When this quirky one-year-old first came to Centerville Pet Rescue, we thought Hannah was a girl — all of his paperwork said so! But after a full veterinary exam, we discovered that Hannah is actually a boy. Due to Manx Syndrome, a congenital condition that can affect the tail, rectum, and urinary system, his genitalia didn’t develop typically. While we could have changed his name, Hannah already responded to it — and we think it suits him perfectly.

A Remarkable Journey

Hannah’s story hasn’t been simple. As a kitten, he struggled with incontinence and difficulty passing stool. Thanks to the dedication of our veterinary team and his loving foster, Hannah underwent reconstructive surgery and a Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) to help him live more comfortably. Today, Hannah is thriving — playful, sweet, and finally able to go potty on his own.

He does occasionally leave behind little “butt kisses” near the litter box or on bedding, but this doesn’t slow him down one bit. With a daily “butt bath” and a little extra care, Hannah continues to live a full and happy life. In fact, he may even do well wearing a diaper in his forever home, if needed.

Hannah on Bed
Hannah Relaxing at Foster Home

A Forever Home for a One-of-a-Kind Cat

Hannah’s journey shows resilience, courage, and a pure-hearted joy for life. What he’s looking for now is a family with a heart as big as his — someone who understands his quirks and will cherish him just the way he is.

If you’re ready to welcome Hannah into your home and give him the happily-ever-after he deserves, please complete an adoption application today. He’s currently living in a foster home, and we’d love to arrange a meet-and-greet so you can see just how special he truly is.

Hannah is waiting — could you be the one to change his life forever?

Why Hannah is Special

Hannah has been in foster care for more than a year, waiting patiently for someone who can see just how extraordinary he is. Here’s what makes him such a treasure:

  • Uses the litter box on his own
  • LOVES other cats and people
  • Could do well with a calm, respectful dog
  • Silly, cuddly, and full of heart

Hannah will need an adopter with some experience caring for cats with Manx Syndrome or other special needs, but he promises to reward you with endless love and gratitude.

Flight Helmet to Forever Home: Patches’ Happy Ending

Patches
Patches Flight Helmet
A Rough Start
When tiny Patches first came to Centerville Pet Rescue, her journey was anything but easy. She and her four siblings had been discovered squeezed underneath a recliner in a home overwhelmed with too many cats. Thanks to a quick-thinking rescuer, the kittens were brought to safety and placed in foster care, where they could finally begin to thrive.
Healing with Heart
But Patches faced an even tougher hurdle. A puncture wound on her head—likely from a tussle with a sibling—required extensive surgery. Our veterinary team carefully cleaned and treated her injury, and though she wasn’t too thrilled about wearing her tiny protective “flight helmet,” it helped her heal. Even then, her sweet spirit and playful nature shone through.

Life with Her Forever Family

Fast forward a few months, and Patches is now living her best life in her forever home! Her adopter shared with us that Patches has blossomed into “an absolute lover,” always ready to curl up on a lap and purr contentedly. She’s also a mischievous little sprite—hiding behind couches to pounce, playfully swatting at Sammie’s tail (her new kitty brother who “thinks he’s the boss”) to spark a game, and keeping her whole family on their toes with her antics.

A Big, Happy Rescue Family
Patches now shares her home with fellow cats Gryffindor (the long-time boss kitty), Wednesday (the shy black cat), and Sammie, plus two dogs, Storm and Banjo. And of course, she’s cherished by her human family—Ariel, Lenny Sr., Lenny Jr., and Sophia—who love spoiling her with affection. She especially enjoys playing with the kids, chasing after the elusive red dot laser. Her family laughs that she’s so small and stealthy that sometimes Lenny Sr. will be standing right next to her and still ask, “Have you seen Patches?”

Why Rescue Matters
From a fragile kitten with a tough start to a joyful, playful little shadow in her forever home, Patches’ story is a perfect reminder of why rescue matters. Every adoption makes space for us to help the next cat in need, and every happy ending like Patches’ inspires us to keep going. With the love of her family and the support of our community, Patches now has the life she deserves—safe, cherished, and full of adventure.

We want this space to keep you connected, inspired, and maybe even give you a reason to smile as we work together to give cats a second chance.

Medical Space

Our Medical Space is Ready!

We have some exciting news: Centerville Pet Rescue now has its very own medical space! This means we’re one step closer to performing spay/neuter surgeries and other vital medical procedures right here at the rescue.

Why does this matter? Every cat deserves a chance at a healthy, safe life, and having an on-site medical space allows us to provide faster care, reduce the stress of travel, and help even more cats in need. It also means we can help our community by offering low-cost spay/neuter services to prevent unwanted litters, reducing the number of cats who end up on the streets or in shelters.

The space is here—and it’s filled with hope and potential—but we need your help to bring it to life. We’re working to raise funds for medical equipment and supplies to make this space fully functional. Every donation, no matter the size, will help us transform this room into a place where cats get a second chance at health, comfort, and adoption.

Your support can help us turn this vision into a reality. Together, we can give even more cats the healthy futures they deserve.

Thank you to the sponsors that have helped us make it this far:

Cat Care Tip

New Adopters:
Give your new cat time to adjust! Set up a quiet space with food, litter, and cozy spots. Let them explore at their own pace. Avoid overwhelming them with attention—gentle patience builds trust and confidence. Most cats take days or even weeks to fully settle in.

Double the Love, Double the Heart: Meet Luci and Sparkles

Are you ready for two purring bundles of affection to light up your home — and your lap? Meet Luci and Sparkles, a pair of 8-year-old bonded sisters who have been waiting patiently for a forever family for over 6 months. Their journey hasn’t been easy, but their hearts are still full of love to give — twice over.

Luci and Sparkles came to Centerville Pet Rescue after a heartbreaking situation: their owners were being evicted and were told the cats had to leave within the week. The pair was devastated, suddenly losing the only home they had ever known.

What was supposed to be a smooth transition into foster care took a dramatic turn when the sisters experienced non-recognition syndrome — a condition where bonded animals, disoriented by new smells or trauma, no longer recognize each other. The rescue team quickly separated them to prevent harm, and that’s when Sparkles began to truly unravel.

Luci the Cat
Luci
She stopped eating. Her mental and physical health declined rapidly, and despite round-the-clock support, medications, and feeding assistance, her condition grew dire. For three intense weeks, Sparkles required a feeding tube and constant care. It was a terrifying time — but also a testament to just how deeply these two sisters need one another.
Once Sparkles began to recover, the foster cautiously reintroduced the pair. There was initial hesitation, but then… something clicked. The recognition returned. They curled close. They relaxed. They found their way back to each other.

Now reunited, Luci and Sparkles are thriving again — purring machines with big personalities who love lounging in sunbeams, warming laps, and enjoying life’s cozy pleasures. They’re currently charming visitors at The Felted Fox in East Petersburg, but they’re still longing for a real home of their own.

These girls are not just cats — they are a story of resilience, sisterhood, and hope. After all they’ve been through, they deserve a home that will never let them go again.

Do you have room in your heart for double the love? Apply to adopt Luci and Sparkles today! We promise — you’ll never meet a better pair.

Pixel’s Perfect Match: From Long Wait to Loving Home

Pixel in Rescue
Pixel in the Rescue

Pixel spent 128 days at Centerville Pet Rescue, patiently watching as other cats found homes while he remained behind. At just five years old, Pixel was gentle, affectionate, and loved the company of other cats—earning the nickname “Uncle Pixy” for how he nurtured the kittens in our adoption room. Despite being FIV-positive—a manageable condition that sometimes deters adopters—Pixel never stopped showing love and calm companionship to every cat he met.

Pixel’s journey to us felt like fate. He was found outside the Willow Street Career and Technology Center with a wound on his side, where veterinary students and staff treated him and gave him the care he needed. Pixel’s FIV status likely came from a defensive bite during his time outside, but we knew he was never the aggressor. He adored other cats, would likely do well with a cat-friendly dog, and was ready for a home where respectful children could enjoy his sweet, calm nature.

As the weeks turned into months, Pixel grew quieter, longing for a sunny spot on a warm sofa and a family of his own.

An Unexpected Perfect Match

Jamie and her son Alex had adopted Nova, a kitten, from us in March and returned hoping to add an orange cat to their family. As they continued checking in, they came across a post about Pixel and felt drawn to him, even though he wasn’t the orange cat they initially had in mind. They visited to meet Pixel, and it was love at first sight—a reminder that sometimes the perfect match is the one you didn’t expect.

Home, Happy, and Loved
Pixel officially joined Jamie and Alex’s family on May 31, 2025. They describe him as “the most chill cat,” and despite his 20-pound frame, he’s the most agile cat they’ve ever had, jumping and climbing wherever he pleases. Nova is thrilled to have Pixel as her big brother, and the two cats have quickly become a bonded pair, filling their home with companionship and joy.

Pixel’s story is a beautiful reminder that every cat, no matter their past or challenges, deserves a chance at a forever home. Thank you to Jamie, Alex and their family (and all of you) for supporting Centerville Pet Rescue and making happy endings like Pixel’s possible.
