Medical Space

Our Medical Space is Ready!

We have some exciting news: Centerville Pet Rescue now has its very own medical space! This means we’re one step closer to performing spay/neuter surgeries and other vital medical procedures right here at the rescue.

Why does this matter? Every cat deserves a chance at a healthy, safe life, and having an on-site medical space allows us to provide faster care, reduce the stress of travel, and help even more cats in need. It also means we can help our community by offering low-cost spay/neuter services to prevent unwanted litters, reducing the number of cats who end up on the streets or in shelters.

The space is here—and it’s filled with hope and potential—but we need your help to bring it to life. We’re working to raise funds for medical equipment and supplies to make this space fully functional. Every donation, no matter the size, will help us transform this room into a place where cats get a second chance at health, comfort, and adoption.

Your support can help us turn this vision into a reality. Together, we can give even more cats the healthy futures they deserve.

Thank you to the sponsors that have helped us make it this far:

Cat Care Tip

New Adopters:
Give your new cat time to adjust! Set up a quiet space with food, litter, and cozy spots. Let them explore at their own pace. Avoid overwhelming them with attention—gentle patience builds trust and confidence. Most cats take days or even weeks to fully settle in.

Double the Love, Double the Heart: Meet Luci and Sparkles

Are you ready for two purring bundles of affection to light up your home — and your lap? Meet Luci and Sparkles, a pair of 8-year-old bonded sisters who have been waiting patiently for a forever family for over 6 months. Their journey hasn’t been easy, but their hearts are still full of love to give — twice over.

Luci and Sparkles came to Centerville Pet Rescue after a heartbreaking situation: their owners were being evicted and were told the cats had to leave within the week. The pair was devastated, suddenly losing the only home they had ever known.

What was supposed to be a smooth transition into foster care took a dramatic turn when the sisters experienced non-recognition syndrome — a condition where bonded animals, disoriented by new smells or trauma, no longer recognize each other. The rescue team quickly separated them to prevent harm, and that’s when Sparkles began to truly unravel.

She stopped eating. Her mental and physical health declined rapidly, and despite round-the-clock support, medications, and feeding assistance, her condition grew dire. For three intense weeks, Sparkles required a feeding tube and constant care. It was a terrifying time — but also a testament to just how deeply these two sisters need one another.
Once Sparkles began to recover, the foster cautiously reintroduced the pair. There was initial hesitation, but then… something clicked. The recognition returned. They curled close. They relaxed. They found their way back to each other.

Now reunited, Luci and Sparkles are thriving again — purring machines with big personalities who love lounging in sunbeams, warming laps, and enjoying life’s cozy pleasures. They’re currently charming visitors at The Felted Fox in East Petersburg, but they’re still longing for a real home of their own.

These girls are not just cats — they are a story of resilience, sisterhood, and hope. After all they’ve been through, they deserve a home that will never let them go again.

Do you have room in your heart for double the love? Apply to adopt Luci and Sparkles today! We promise — you’ll never meet a better pair.

Pixel’s Perfect Match: From Long Wait to Loving Home

Pixel in Rescue
Pixel in the Rescue

Pixel spent 128 days at Centerville Pet Rescue, patiently watching as other cats found homes while he remained behind. At just five years old, Pixel was gentle, affectionate, and loved the company of other cats—earning the nickname “Uncle Pixy” for how he nurtured the kittens in our adoption room. Despite being FIV-positive—a manageable condition that sometimes deters adopters—Pixel never stopped showing love and calm companionship to every cat he met.

Pixel’s journey to us felt like fate. He was found outside the Willow Street Career and Technology Center with a wound on his side, where veterinary students and staff treated him and gave him the care he needed. Pixel’s FIV status likely came from a defensive bite during his time outside, but we knew he was never the aggressor. He adored other cats, would likely do well with a cat-friendly dog, and was ready for a home where respectful children could enjoy his sweet, calm nature.

As the weeks turned into months, Pixel grew quieter, longing for a sunny spot on a warm sofa and a family of his own.

An Unexpected Perfect Match

Jamie and her son Alex had adopted Nova, a kitten, from us in March and returned hoping to add an orange cat to their family. As they continued checking in, they came across a post about Pixel and felt drawn to him, even though he wasn’t the orange cat they initially had in mind. They visited to meet Pixel, and it was love at first sight—a reminder that sometimes the perfect match is the one you didn’t expect.

Pixel officially joined Jamie and Alex’s family on May 31, 2025. They describe him as “the most chill cat,” and despite his 20-pound frame, he’s the most agile cat they’ve ever had, jumping and climbing wherever he pleases. Nova is thrilled to have Pixel as her big brother, and the two cats have quickly become a bonded pair, filling their home with companionship and joy.

Pixel’s story is a beautiful reminder that every cat, no matter their past or challenges, deserves a chance at a forever home. Thank you to Jamie, Alex and their family (and all of you) for supporting Centerville Pet Rescue and making happy endings like Pixel’s possible.
