From “Bugs” to Best Friends: Cycles & Eevee’s Happy Ending

Cycles and Evee on Chair
Cycles and Evee

Early in the new year, two little cats named Bed Bug and Potato Bug began a brand-new chapter — and today, Cycles and Eevee are thriving in a home filled with love, laughter, and companionship.

Their adopter had recently moved to Lancaster alone, starting fresh without nearby family or friends. Having never grown up with pets due to allergies in the household, adopting even one cat felt like a big step — let alone two. But sometimes, the right connection makes the decision easy.

And that’s exactly what happened.

From the moment Cycles and Eevee entered the playroom, their personalities shone through. They were affectionate, curious, and full of confidence — and within that first visit, it was clear they were meant to go home together.

That same confidence carried right into their new life. Within the first hour of arriving home, they were already exploring every corner of the apartment like seasoned pros. That very first night? Curled up together with their new person, as if they had always belonged there.

Today, their bond — with each other and their adopter — is undeniable.

Cycles (also known as “Mr. Scream”) is the bold adventurer of the pair. He’s vocal, playful, and always ready to demand attention with a dramatic “meoooowww” before launching himself into a lap. He proudly carries his favorite toy fish everywhere and even leaves behind little “gifts” — carefully placed toys to surprise his human in the morning. He’s also a dedicated TV buddy and has a unique habit of using faces as pillows.

Eevee (aka “Mr. Soup”) started out a bit more reserved, but it didn’t take long for his sweet, cuddly nature to take center stage. Now, he’s rarely more than a few inches away, whether you’re working, resting, or relaxing. He’s affectionate, gentle, and just a little mischievous — especially when it comes to trying to sneak bites of his brother’s food.

Together, they fill their home with personality and joy. Their favorite nap spots? The desk chair, a cozy beanbag, and — perhaps most amusingly — the shower mat.

But beyond the adorable quirks and playful moments, this adoption story carries something deeper.

For their adopter, Cycles and Eevee didn’t just become pets — they became companionship, comfort, and connection during a time that could have felt isolating. The impact has been profound:

“My life has improved so significantly since adopting them.”

Stories like this are at the heart of what we do. It’s not just about finding homes for cats — it’s about creating meaningful connections that change lives on both sides.

Thank you for supporting adoptions that make stories like this possible.

Volunteer Spotlight: Sharon Gromis

Sharon
Sharon

At Centerville Pet Rescue, our mission is powered by compassionate, dedicated people—and Sharon Gromis is one of those individuals who has made a lasting impact over the years.

Sharon first connected with the rescue around 2017 through visits to That Fish Place – That Pet Place. At the time, she was advising the F&M Unleashed student club, and students would occasionally volunteer with us. As those students graduated and moved on, something different happened for Sharon—she didn’t.

What began as a way to support her students quickly grew into a personal passion. While others passed through, Sharon found a place where she truly belonged—and she’s been part of the Centerville Pet Rescue family ever since.

Although Sharon can’t have cats at home, volunteering gives her the opportunity to enjoy meaningful “cat time.” Her love for animals extends beyond the rescue—she shares her life with Maddie, her adorable rescued black and tan dachshund, and her family is deeply committed to adoption. Every dog in her household, and her daughter’s, has been rescued. Supporting the mission of animal rescue isn’t just something Sharon does—it’s something she lives.

At the rescue, Sharon is known for her attention to detail and her commitment to creating a clean, comfortable environment for the cats. She takes pride in ensuring each cat begins their journey with us in a safe, well-cared-for space. She’s often the one emphasizing the “clean” in feed & clean—but that dedication plays a critical role in the health, comfort, and dignity of every cat in our care.

Sharon also finds great joy in seeing cats leave for their forever homes—a full-circle moment that reflects the heart of rescue work. Just as meaningful to her are the connections she’s built with fellow volunteers, forming friendships rooted in a shared passion for helping animals.

Her contributions extend even further. Sharon previously served two years as Secretary on the Board, helping support the organization behind the scenes including setting the organizations long-term goals. Today, she continues to volunteer regularly—most often on Sundays for feed & clean shifts—and lends a hand at special events whenever her schedule allows.

When asked to describe Centerville Pet Rescue, Sharon shared: “Freeing and delivering animals from abuse, neglect, and danger.”

Sharon, thank you for your years of dedication, your steady presence, and the care you bring to every cat and every task. Volunteers like you are truly the heart of everything we do.

Adoptable Cat of the Month: Sophia

Sophia
Sophia

A gentle soul with a story that truly matters.

Sophia is an 8-year-old all-black domestic shorthair whose journey to our rescue began with an act of deep love. When her devoted human mom entered hospice care, her greatest wish was simple but profound — to know that Sophia would be safe, cherished, and cared for. We made that promise, and now we are searching for the person who will carry that love forward.

Sophia was clearly a treasured companion, and it shows in everything she does. She brings a calm, comforting presence into any room — the kind that makes a house feel like home. She adores curling up in bed with her foster family, soaking up gentle pets and chin scratches, and simply being near her people.

Though she has a few medical needs, Sophia handles them with quiet grace. She has arthritis, which is well managed with a daily over-the-counter joint supplement and low-entry litter boxes to keep her comfortable and independent. And despite a little stiffness, she still enjoys playtime — a sweet reminder that age is just a number.

Sophia also has irritable bowel syndrome and thrives on a prescription diet (Hill’s Biome dry food) along with a daily medication (Budesonide), which she takes like a champ.

We understand that Sophia may not be the easiest adoption — but she may just be the most meaningful one.

Our greatest hope is to find Sophia her forever home soon, so her original mom can have peace knowing her beloved companion is safe and deeply loved.

Could you be the one to give Sophia that gift?
If you have room in your heart and home for a truly special cat, Sophia is ready to meet you — and to love you in the quiet, beautiful way only she can.

Spring Safety for Curious Cats

Cat Care Tip

Spring is finally here, and with it comes sunshine, open windows, and lots of new sights and smells for your cat to explore. While the season brings fresh energy, it also comes with a few hidden dangers to keep in mind.

Keep windows secure.
Cats love fresh air, but open windows without sturdy screens can quickly lead to dangerous falls. Always double-check that screens are tight and secure before letting your cat enjoy a breeze.

Watch out for toxic plants.
Popular spring flowers like lilies, tulips, and daffodils can be highly toxic to cats—even a small nibble or pollen exposure can be harmful. When decorating or gardening, choose pet-safe plants whenever possible.

Be mindful of seasonal chemicals.
Fertilizers, weed killers, and pest treatments are common this time of year. Even small amounts can be dangerous if tracked inside on paws or ingested during grooming.

Refresh your cat’s environment.
Spring is a great time to rotate toys, add a sunny perch, or introduce a new scratching post. Keeping your cat mentally stimulated helps prevent boredom and encourages healthy activity.

A little extra awareness goes a long way—helping your cat enjoy the season safely while soaking up all the joys of spring.
